Emily Burke
Emily Burke was born in Rochester and is currently a student at Alfred University. She hopes to pursue a concentration in painting, but also loves to explore all aspects of art. Mixed materials, printmaking, and ceramics are a few other ways she enjoys involving herself in new artistic opportunities.
Artist Statement:
I find the simplicity and relationships of formal elements, as well as materiality of paint itself, are the most alluring aspects of paintings. As I enjoy working intuitively, creating a sense of environment becomes the aim in my work, whether it be through depth or through fragmented space. As I paint, I see a majority of my work in terms of layers. By seeing in this way I find I can be absolutely spontaneous, but at the same time, in control of each decision. In the end, painting becomes one great obsessive, editing process.
