Because this one ain't like them others. We use hops of a different color, earthy and herbal, well-balanced by bready malt. The result? An English-style IPA that separates itself from the ubiquitous bunch. Cartloads of bitter monkeys flinging wasteful amounts of bananas into the jungle . . .we're so done with that.

Van Eeke - Poperings Hommel Belgian IPA 7.5 ABV / Belgium

Poperings Homel is the true Belgian hop ale. All other hop beers from Belgium are brewed specifically for the U.S. market. However, Poperings Hommel is Van Eecke’s flag ship brand in Belgium and abroad. What makes it special is of course the yeast, and what makes it unique is the higher amounts of hops used. This beer has about twice the bitterness of other Belgian beers. We could not expect less, since this beer has been brewed for centuries in the heart of the Belgian hops region: Poperinge. Indeed, the small village of Watou is today part of the city of Poperinge. Poperings Hommel ale is brewed with a blend of summer, winter and aromatic pale malts. The brewery has its own well where soft water is found, and only local grown hops from the Gold and Hallertau family are used. "A roselike floweriness, honeyish notes, orange-zest hop flavors and a late spicy, cuminseed dryness." – Michael Jackson | Beer Hunter

  • $5.50

Ithaca - Cascazilla Red Ale 7.0 ABV / Ithaca, NY

The name CascaZilla (Cas-kuh-zil-uh) is a play on both the name of a gorge in Ithaca called Cascadilla and the monster amounts of Cascade Hops we use to make the beer. The predominant flavor and aroma of this beer comes from fresh American hops. CascaZilla gets its distinctive red color from a healthy portion of caramel malt, which also lends to the beer, a hearty body and sweetness. It is a hoppy red ale! ABV 7% IBUs: N/A Malt: 2-Row, Crystal, Black Hops: Cascade, Chinook, Crystal Dry-Hop: Cascade, Amarillo Suggested Food Pairing: Accentuates spicy stews or barbecued meat. Recommended Cheese Pairing: Strong cheeses like Danish Blue or Gruyere.

Left Hand - Week Sauce Coffee Porter 6.0 ABV / Colorado

For this year’s Beer Week Sauce, Left Hand was lucky to once again partner with local coffee company, Allegro Coffee to supply us the ground beans to add to aging. Allegro sent our Head Brewer Ro home with a whopping 60 pounds of Sumatra Blue Batak (since renamed Sumatra Lintong) for just the first batch! The heavy bodied coffee comes from Northern Sumatra, a province of Indonesia in the southern hills of Lake Tabo (the world’s largest volcanic crater lake). The coffee is sourced from the indigenous Batak people whom use a special technique of wet hulling (Giling Basah), which imparts a more rustic flavor in the coffee. Sumatra Blue Batak is known for its unique herbal character, with mushroom undertones and hints of eucalyptus, sage, and tobacco. We add the coffee to Beer Week Sauce using a beloved piece of equipment, known around Left Hand as the Hop2-D2. The Hop2 helps us steep an ingredient into the beer, to extract the desired flavor. Based on the name, you can guess that more often than not, it’s used for hops – but hey, we make our own rules. Brewer Tim & Cellarman Adam add bag by bag – 12 total, to the Hop2-D2 as it infuses the porter with the coffee grounds. For this 60 bbl batch, we added a total of 60 pounds of Sumatra Blue Batak to the beer. The added coffee will then age with the beer, till it’s time to filter and then ultimately be packaged. Brewed for the champions of Beer Weeks across the U.S., Beer Week Sauce 2013 does not disappoint! The beer pours black with a big punch of roast coffee in the nose. The earthy, roasty Sumatra coffee plays with a slight citrus hop element. Chocolate and strong coffee lead to a finish of coffee roasting and pleasant bitterness. Strong & flavorful, Beer Week Sauce is a dream come true for both the beer lover and coffee fanatic in you!

Sierra Nevada - Bigfoot Barleywine (2011) 9.6 ABV / California

From the brewery’s private library. Extended aging of Bigfoot refines some of the barleywine’s notoriously bold character. Famous for its aggressive hoppiness, vintage Bigfoot gains more subtlety over time. As the hops fade to the background, the robust malts take over and notes of brandied cherries, dates, cocoa, leaf tobacco and caramel come to the fore. Over time, Bigfoot becomes less of a beast and more of a beauty, suitable for serving as an after-dinner drink in your favorite cordial glass or snifter.

Van Steenberge - Monk's Café Flemish Red Ale 5.5 ABV / Belgium

As Belgian beer lovers, you certainly know about the famous restaurant-bar in Philadelphia with the name Monk’s Café. This restaurant is known all over the USA as one of the best places to find an extensive selection of Belgian beers, and also great food cooked in Belgian beer. The owner Tom Peters is one of the many people who fell in love years ago with Belgian beer, and one of the few who had the passion and tenacity to learn all about it. In 2002 he finally had the opportunity, and the courage to convince the Van Steenberge brewery to bottle its famous ‘BIOS - Vlaamse Bourgogne’ under private label for him. The Flemish Burgundy of the Van Steenberge brewery is an old brown in style, aged in oak, and is one of the oldest brews made by the brewery, at least brewed for over 300 years. Tom Peters knew the beer long since, but always had trouble finding some bottles, even in Belgium. Indeed, the beer is only brewed once a year. A final tasting of a whole line of Belgian Old Browns in the Brugs Beertje bar (Brugge) tilted the decision: this is the best old brown ale in the world! And Tom went to the brewery to see Mr. Paul Van Steenberge and Mr. Jef Versele, the owners of the brewery. Well the rest is history, as they say, but we at the Global Beer Network are very honored to be able to import this fabulous, exceptional Belgian beer in the USA.

    Hofstetten - Granitbock 7.3 ABV / Austria

Captain Lawrence - Xtra Gold Trippel 10.0 ABV / Elmsford, NY

This beer is the result of the marriage between two very distinct beer styles; the Belgian Tripel & American IPA. We have taken the best qualities from both styles and allowed them to shine through. The fruity and spicy notes from the imported Belgian yeast strain & the pungent flavors and aromas of the American grown Amarillo hops flow seamlessly together to create this flavorful ale. Straight from the Captain’s cellar to yours, we hope you enjoy. SENSORY PROFILE Enjoy in a goblet or wine glass.Tropical fruit and honey are the two biggest aromas coming from this lively brew. While the hop bitterness is not as powerful as an IPA, the hop flavor melds nicely with the fruity flavors created by the imported Belgian yeast strain used. FOOD PAIRING This beer goes great with roasted vegetables, fish and rotisserie chicken. And it can be used as a aperitif before dinner with shrimp cocktail.

Dogfish Head - Positive Contact 9.0 ABV / Delaware

A positive combination of Fuji cider, slow-roasted farro, a bit of cayenne and fresh cilantro. This beer part of our Music Series of beers... this one is an amalgamation of hip-hop, beer, cider and a DIY culinary experience! Sam and Dan the Automator of Deltron 3030 teamed up to create Positive Contact, based on Dan's favorite ingredients and Dogfish Head's innovative brewing practices. Named after a key track on the first album, Positive Contact is a 9% ABV hybrid of beer and cider brewed with Fuji apples, roasted farro, a handful of cayenne peppers and a late dose of fresh cilantro. This sweet-and-sour Belgian-ish brew is a light straw color with fruity, cider-like notes. The cayenne and alcohol give it a warming finish. For the inaugural release (2012), the beer was packaged in a dynamic box set of six 750-ml champagne bottles, with a 10-inch vinyl EP of four new Deltron 3030 remixes created exclusively for this project, and a list of Deltron 3030-inspired recipes from a small group of renowned chefs. Subsequent releases did not include the vinyl or recipes.

Anchor - Summer Beer 4.5 ABV / California

Anchor Summer is the first American wheat beer in modern times. Our first brew of this light and refreshing beer was in the summer of 1984. Anchor Summer is an all-malt beer, and over 50% of its malt comes from malted wheat. It is fermented with a Triticum aestivum, AKA wheat traditional top-fermenting "ale" yeast because we prefer the clean flavors developed by this yeast. We believe that this style best celebrates the refreshingly light flavor of malted wheat. You may notice that the head on this beer is unusually abundant, with a consistency similar to whipped egg whites. This is due to protein contributed by the wheat. The brewers at Anchor are proud to have revived not only rich hearty dark beers, but also this light crisp style of a modern American wheat beer. Wheat malt contributes to an unusual lightness and dryness to the palate, and this—combined with the distinctive flavor of the wheat—makes for a perfect thirst-quenching beverage. It is the ideal drink for beer lovers who appreciate tradition and character in their beer, but also seek a lighter, refreshing style, perfect for warm weather.Anchor Summer is the first American wheat beer in modern times.
